Could Jurassic Park Actually Happen?

The short answer: no. The long answer is fascinating.

The DNA Problem

DNA degrades over time. The half-life of DNA is about 521 years โ€” meaning after 6.8 million years, every bond is broken. Since the last non-avian dinosaurs died 66 million years ago, there is essentially zero viable dinosaur DNA left.

What We CAN Do

While T. rex is off the table, scientists are working on de-extincting more recent species like the woolly mammoth and the passenger pigeon.

Chickenosaurus โ€” a real project โ€” aims to reactivate dormant dinosaur traits in chickens, essentially creating a "chicken with teeth and a tail." It's not Jurassic Park, but it's real science.
